The main aim in ImageLife2 was to initiate the study of a 3D dynamic model of the cellular mechanisms of cancer cell invasion and metastasis by analyzing the dynamics of protrusive structures, such as filopodia and invadopodia. We investigated several technologies to find a suitable candidate for implementing a software for 3D visualization to help the understanding of the key mechanisms of metastasis. Given the complexity and the size of the data, we focused on high-performance technologies running on massively parallel hardware.
